Tips for Final Reports

Supported with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), local government and private contributions, LCB is a statewide effort to provide local support for arts in education.

Grounded in research confirming that arts integration across the curriculum improves student performance, the program encourages partnerships between schools, artists and arts/cultural organizations to enhance students attainment of New York State Learning Standards.  This matching grant program also benefits the artists and arts/cultural organizations that participate, through increased public awareness and audience size.

Program success is measured through self-assessment questionnaires and reports submitted by grantees, and by program audits conducted by The ARTS staff.  School districts also evaluate program performance through traditional educational measures, such as test scores.

The ARTS has been regranting funds to these collaborative programs since the early 1990s, and has administered NYSCA's LCB regrant program locally since its inception in 2002.  The ARTS currently administers this program in Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties, and has regranted close to $100,000 since 2002.

  • Professional Development for Teachers and Teaching Artists

The ARTS provides arts in education professional development activities designed to build professional relationships between educators, artists, and local arts/cultural organizations.  Begun in 2001, The ARTS Connections program offers professional development opportunities for artists and educators, focusing on integrating music, theatre, dance, creative writing and visual art into school curricula, and regional meetings which highlight best practices in the field.

  • National Youth Art Month

National Youth Art Month (NYAM) is a national event that celebrates the artist in every child.  Its purpose is to direct attention and increase community awareness of the value of art education for all children.  During the month of March, 2010, with the cooperation of local businesses and art teachers, The ARTS exhibited over 700 pieces of youth artwork in close to 30  businesses throughout Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties.  Stay tuned for information on NYAM 2011!
