Ten New Murals Throughout the Southern Finger Lakes
The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) is proud to be a community partner in New York State’s Cultivating Havens for the Arts through Regional Murals (CHARM) program, a new initiative of Governor Kathy Hochul.
Over the last 5 months, The ARTS Council has worked with Community Arts of Elmira in Elmira, the Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library in Odessa, Hornell Area Concern for Youth in Canisteo, Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center in Salamanca, and Tioga Arts Council in Owego to bring 10 murals to fruition across our entire service region.
Chris Walters, Executive Director of The ARTS Council, says, “The ARTS Council is honored to participate in this movement that amplifies New York’s unique culture and community through artistic placemaking and share these murals that have transformed public spaces.”
“Public art inspires and educates – it strengthens our civic pride and brings us together,” Governor Kathy Hochul said. “By supporting our innovative creative sector to work with communities all across the state, CHARM will reimagine everyday public spaces as vibrant destinations for visitors and residents alike.”
