Corning, NY, March 21, 2016 – The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) is pleased to announce recipients of the 2016 Community Arts, Public School Teaching Artist, and Artist Crossroads grant programs. Thirty-eight area artists and organizations will receive a total of $85,000 for community and school-based arts and cultural programs taking place in 2016. Since 1978, these grants have been made possible through Decentralization funds, public money mandated by the New York State Legislature to encourage increased participation at the local level in the state’s cultural funding process. These grants enable artists and organizations to enhance the artistic and cultural climate in our communities and fulfill a vital mission of The ARTS Council of making arts and culture accessible to all. $60,500 in Community Arts grants support the activities of artists, arts groups, and community organizations in service to local residents: Chemung County The Cantata Singers, $2,500 to present The 52nd Season Economic Opportunity Program of Chemung County, $1,000 to present Juneteenth New Heights Dance Theater, $2,500 to present Spring Awakenings and The Nutcracker The Park Church, $1,500 to present The Arts at Park Schuyler County Episcopal Parishes of Schuyler County, $1,300 to present Schuyler County Concert Series X Franklin Street Gallery, $2,000 to present All Access Art New York Alliance for the Arts, $2,050 to present Montour Falls Community Mural Watkins Glen Public Library and Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library, $2,400 to present Hands on Art Steuben County Arkport Village Book Center, $1,000 to present Start Summer Reading with Songs Broadway Union, $1,900 to present Listening to Here Cohocton Public Library, $450 to present Project Fairy House Endless Mountain Music Festival, $2,620 to present STEM Makes Music Family Service Society, $1,060 to present The Community Arts Program for Children and Teens Hornell Area Wind Ensemble, $1,750 to present Hornell Area Wind Ensemble Concert Series 2016
