CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is seeking artwork submissions for its June 2021 exhibition, BETWEEN STARSHINE & CLAY: An Exhibition Celebrating Artists of Color.

The title is adapted from poem “won’t you celebrate with me” by Lucille Clifton. Clifton’s poem reads:

won’t you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.

This classic poem is an assertion and an invitation, an embrace and a challenge, a song of survival and a celebratory hymn.

In the spirit of this poem, TAC invites artists of color to submit entries for this special juried art exhibition. The basic criteria for submissions includes:

· Artists must be a person of color · Artists must be 18 years of age or older · Artists may submit up to two pieces of artwork · Each submission must be accompanied by a brief statement explaining how a work relates to the theme of the show. · The committee will accept submissions from January through May 8, 2021 only.

Email submission: Visual artists may send up to two submissions of artwork per artist by emailing the following:  Artist Name  Artist Phone Number & Email  High-resolution image, medium, title, and price for each work submitted (Please send image of UNFRAMED work.)
