CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is seeking artwork submissions for its June 2021 exhibition, BETWEEN STARSHINE & CLAY: An Exhibition Celebrating Artists of Color.
The title is adapted from poem “won’t you celebrate with me” by Lucille Clifton. Clifton’s poem reads:
won’t you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.
This classic poem is an assertion and an invitation, an embrace and a challenge, a song of survival and a celebratory hymn.
In the spirit of this poem, TAC invites artists of color to submit entries for this special juried art exhibition. The basic criteria for submissions includes:
· Artists must be a person of color · Artists must be 18 years of age or older · Artists may submit up to two pieces of artwork · Each submission must be accompanied by a brief statement explaining how a work relates to the theme of the show. · The committee will accept submissions from January through May 8, 2021 only.
Email submission: Visual artists may send up to two submissions of artwork per artist by emailing the following: Artist Name Artist Phone Number & Email High-resolution image, medium, title, and price for each work submitted (Please send image of UNFRAMED work.)
Mail-in submission: Visual artists may send photos, slides, or USB drives for proposed artwork (up to two submissions per artist). Send materials to Tioga Arts Council, c/o Christina Di Stefano, 179 Front Street, Owego, NY 13827.
Accepted artwork must be properly wired for hanging and dropped off by Saturday, May 22, by 4:00 p.m.
Note: There is no entry fee to participate. We want to encourage a wide variety of submissions from regional artists and to allow ample time for artists who want to participate.
The exhibition will open on First Friday, June 4, 2021. The exhibition will run from June 4 – 26, 2021 at 179 Front Street
