During the Month of February 2023 Alfred University School of Art and Design (SOAD) will host glass artists who hail from the afro diaspora. Each week an Artist working with glass will lead workshops and lecture on their work and experience.

Corey Pemberton (American b. Reston, VA 1990, Lives Los Angeles, CA) received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. He has completed residencies internationally at institutions including The Pittsburgh Glass Center (PA), Bruket (Bodø, NO), and a fellowship at the Penland School of Crafts (NC). He currently divides his time between his painting studio and a production glassblowing team in LA.

Corey will give a demonstration in the studio from 1:30-4pm followed by a public lecture in Binns-Merrill Hall 106 at 4:30pm.

In 2021 Alfred University student Adeye Jean-Baptiste proposed an artist series with glass artists who hail from the afro diaspora. Finding support from the SOAD, the Sculpture Dimensional Studio Division, and from the local artists and community with a successful fundraising auction in the fall of 22.

The series is also supported by Olympic Color, a glassblowing supply company in Seattle, WA, who provided materials for the artists by Olympic Color. (image attached)
