ITHACA, NY – The Cornell Department of Music’s Barbara & Richard T. Silver Wind Symphony and director James Spinazzola are pleased to host the 2024 conference of the College Band Directors National Association Eastern Division February 22-24 on the Cornell campus. Seven of the top wind ensembles in the northeast, along with a collaborative ensemble, will perform free concerts at Bailey Hall, and Cornell conductor James Spinazzola will direct a special performance of Stravinsky’s Piano Concerto in celebration of the piece’s 100th anniversary. The following events are open to the public with no tickets required.

Thursday, February 22         

Cornell Wind Symphony, James Spinazzola, conductor. In the opening concert of the College Band Directors National Association Eastern Division conference, the Wind Symphony performs Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Tania León’s Batá, Dana Wilson’s Concerto for Jazz Trumpet and Wind Ensemble with soloist Chris Coletti, Mark Winges’ Adventure in the Air with soloist Eric Troiano, and works by Gonzalo Roig, Laura Cetilia, and Thomas Doss. Dana Wilson joins James Spinazzola for a pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm.
