ITHACA, NY – The Cornell Wind Symphony, conducted by James Spinazzola, performs their first concert of the season on Saturday, October 1 at 7:00 pm in Bailey Hall. Yamatai, Cornell’s high-energy taiko drumming group, joins the ensemble for Julie Giroux’s Symphony No. 4: “Bookmarks from Japan.” Inspired by a gift of six bookmarks featuring artwork by famous Japanese artists, Giroux’s piece depicts each scene, including Hokusai Katsushika’s “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” and Hiroshige Ando’s “Kinryuzan Temple in Asakusa.” The program also includes Carl Maria von Weber’s Overture to Der Freischütz.
