“Black and White”
Artist Reid Palmer
is at the CAP ArtSpace
Local artist Reid Palmer’s exhibit, “Black and White” is a collection of abstract paintings, diptychs, and multi-panel pieces that help to illustrate the dangers of racialized thinking and race constructions.
In using colorful abstract works to create the connections between us, Reid uses this in juxtaposition to the basic colors or labels of black and white that we use to assign worth and value to individuals based on the social construction of race.
This exhibit aims to remind us that we need to refocus our perceptions if we want to live in a world where race and racism are less prominent as opposed to a focus on using appropriate language or the academic study of the social construction of race.
August ArtSpace Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 to 5.
Address: Tompkins Center for History & Culture, 110 N. Tioga St, Ithaca 14850 (on the Ithaca Commons)
