In The Waiting: Short Stories of Love and Friendship is a visual recounting of expectations I set around themes of love, friendship, and gathering after the critical phase of COVID had passed. A

prominent thought throughout isolation was, ”…when next we gather,” and I gave myself the space to set hopeful expectations for those instances. As we emerged from COVID, those hopeful expectations had mixed highs and lows as lived experiences. During this time, set practices of hiking, delving into my garden, and observing nature in action kept me grounded and connected to the idea that life continues in its own ebb and flow. The past three years have inspired constant reminders to stay the course, find humor in all matters, and to practice the art forms of patience and waiting. The result is In The Waiting, a series of still-life paintings of food and flowers that tells this story.

Christina Johnson received her Master of Science in Education for the area of Curriculum and Instruction from The State University of New York in Potsdam in 2007, and in 2011, she completed her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
