From the Artist – About In Your Backyard
“…Nature also reminds me that nothing thrives alone. The bee needs the flower, which needs the soil, which needs the fungi threading beneath it. Each one is part of an ecosystem, an entire community, holding itself up together the same way we do. It offers itself freely, only asking that if we do appreciate it we play a small part in keeping it healthy. This idea of symbiotic support has become even more palpable in my own life in the past year as I welcomed my first child into the world…

In Your Backyard began as a love letter to the plants, insects, birds, and small creatures I grew up with: a backyard-scale mural of fifteen hand-built stoneware wall panels tracing a walk through my inspiration. If you take a piece home with you, know that you carry a small piece of this place, and of everyone who has stood in this room with you. We are not isolated individuals. We are part of a larger, living system: one that depends on one another to keep it thriving.”
