Rochester Contemporary Art Center

Square The Love: Puerto Rico

Since 2008 Rochester Contemporary Art Center’s 6×6 exhibition has brought together diverse artists from all around the world to create a stunning exhibition of small art, and raise funds for our contemporary art programming. In 2022, 6×6 will continue to include artworks from all around the globe, while also paying it forward to a specific community and shining a light on a critical issue. In future years, RoCo may shift focus and share the love with another community and highlight a different issue impacting them.

Puerto Rico and Fundación de Culebra

For several decades from 1940 to 2003, the United States Department of Defense used the islands of Vieques and Culebra, Puerto Rico, as military training sites. Due to the detonation of bombs and napalm, depleted uranium and other toxic chemicals and heavy metals have contaminated the islands. The mission of the Fundación de Culebra is to educate, protect and promote the understanding of the history, environment, culture and community of Culebra. This includes the education and protection of the precious natural resources on the island, ensuring they are conserved for the enjoyment of future generations. Learn more about Fundación de Culebra here.

Support RoCo, Culebra & Vieques

In addition to thousands of other artworks from all around the globe, we aim to exhibit a dedicated wall of 6×6 artworks from Puerto Rico. These will be sold to also benefit Fundación de Culebra. Additionally a special fundraising event will be held June 30 with all proceeds benefiting the fundación. For more information about the event, contact Henry Padrón padron.diaspora@gmail.com

All 6×6 artworks received from Puerto Rico by the entry deadline will be included in Square The Love. If you’re based in Puerto Rico and you’d like to contribute 6×6 artworks to this special effort, please follow the regular entry guidelines for all other global participants listed at roco6x6.org. Want to get involved?
