Will Wickham is putting out a call for poets on behalf of the Cantata Singers. They’re paying $300 for poems written about our region that they can then use set to music for their concerts. Can we feature this in the newsletter and maybe on social media somehow? It’s a really nice opportunity for our area poets. I might even give it a go. Here’s the call:
Composer Will Wickham and collaborating community choir, the Cantata Singers, supported by Artist Employment Program funding from Creatives Rebuild New York is seeking poetry to serve as text for new choral music being created as part of our Story Music Project. We are open to all and are especially interested in work by Black poets, Indigenous poets, LGBTQIA+ poets, and poets of color.
The theme of our project is contemporary and/or historical life in the Southern Finger Lakes Region of New York. Successful submissions will relate a unique and compelling story of a person, a community, and/or the natural world in our part of New York. All forms of poetry will be considered. We are offering $300 for each poem that is used as part of the project. Although writers are encouraged to submit early and often, the deadline for this opportunity is Friday, May 26, 2023.
Please include a brief biography and full contact information with your submission(s). Electronic submissions (word processing or PDF documents) and/or questions should be directed to Will Wickham via email at cantatasingers@ymail.com.
