Spring is coming soon and it’s time for a celebration! The 20th Annual Fiddlers’ Gathering is convening June 6 and 7 at Watkins Glen State Park’s South Pavilion. The Fiddlers’ Gathering includes both performances in the pavilion and an open Jamming Tent. Fiddlers’ is free with the price of admission to the park, six dollars per vehicle.

Twenty years ago, The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS) hosted the first Fiddlers’ Gathering to provide a place for Old Time musicians to come together and keep their music alive. Traditional artists throughout the region have created a community that honors and preserves our local heritage while nurturing young musicians.

In honor of our 20th season, Fiddlers’ is reaching out to the community more than ever before! There will be four free workshop options in The Jamming Tent for musicians at every skill level. This year The Jamming Tent is facilitated by Valley Folk Music (http://www.valleyfolk.org/) and will run both days of the Gathering. Bring an acoustic instrument or just clap your hands.

There will be three free workshops open to everyone in the Jamming Tent on Saturday, including Fiddling for Children with Jesse Alexander at 1:00. The second workshop, Fiddling for Beginning Adults, begins at 2:30 with Jessica Boss (http://www.mpnnow.com/towns/canandaigua/x1346882350/Musicians-take-a-bow-at-fiddle-concert). There will also be a workshop for Guitar and Fiddle at 4:00 with Henry Jankiewicz and Harvey Nusbaum. On Sunday, Laura Orshaw (http://www.lauraorshaw.com/) will offer a free workshop for Advanced Fiddlers at 12:30 in the Jamming Tent.

“Old- Time music was available for all, young and old,” explains Connie Sullivan-Blum, Folk Arts Coordinator at The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. “Fiddlers’ Gathering wants to maintain that tradition. Everyone is encouraged to learn and participate.”

Four bands perform in the South Pavilion on Saturday, June 6 beginning with John Cadley and the Lost Boys (http://lostboysbluegrass.com/) who will kick off the Gathering at 1:00. They are followed by the Salt Potatoes (http://www.cnyba.com/cnyba/calendar.html) at 2:30, the Jesse Alexander Band at 4:00, and The Boss Tones who will close the day at 5:30. On Sunday, June 7, Jackie Hobbs will fire up the Pavilion at 1:00, followed by Kate Lee with No Strings Attached (http://www.kateleemusic.com/) at 2:30, and The Orshaw Family Band at 4:00. Pat Kane and Finger Lakes Folk (http://www.westoclare.com/PatKane/) will take the stage at 5:30 and close the festival with traditional Irish tunes.

Food will be on sale from the Park vendor; the pavilion and restrooms are handicap accessible.
