The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) and Ancient Voices Media are thrilled to announce that Pottery Pete: Revitalizing Hodinöhšo:ni:h Pottery is an official selection for the 2024 Buffalo International Film Festival!

Pottery Pete: Revitalizing Hodinöhšo:ni:h Pottery(2024) is an intimate exploration of the artistic journey of Peter B. Jones (Onondaga, Beaver Clan), a distinguished Hodinöhšo:ni:h potter and lifelong resident of the Cattaraugus Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians. Jones has been pivotal in revitalizing Hodinöhšo:ni:h pottery since the 1970s. Produced by Ancient Voices media, the documentary short was created by Jocelyn J. Jones and Cami Jones, Peter’s nieces, through The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes’ 2023 Community Documentation Workshop. It was accepted in the Western New York Shorts category, where it will have its Western New York Premiere.

Pottery Pete: Revitalizing Hodinöhšo:ni:h Pottery will premiere in the Western New York BIFF Shorts: Local Portraits category on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 4:45-6:45pm, at the North Park Theater, 1428 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14216. Ancient Voices Media is an Indigenous, female-owned business featuring Indigenous dancing,  performing arts productions, indigenous language and culture contract services, public speaking on Indigenous historical trauma and Indigenous culture, multimedia 2-D art, and more.

The Community Documentation Workshop (CDW), an effort of The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, equips grassroots organizations in our region with the skills and perspectives to document and present their cultural traditions and histories from their own perspectives.
