DESCRIPTION: It is essential to undertake a cost analysis in order to price one’s work correctly.  This analysis allows you to determine appropriate venues for your work and correctly position yourself in the marketplace in order to make a living. This workshop will guide you through the pricing process step by step, providing definitions, tips and formulas that will help you price your work in a logical, dynamic way to maximize sales and profits.

It comes from the process hatters used to preserve and condense the felt in their hats…using mercury, which made them a tad mad! This and other important information regarding hazardous materials in art and historical collections will be the topic of conversation for the evening.

DESCRIPTION: The ARTS Council awards over $140,000 in grants each year to artists and organizations. Dozens of other donors and state agencies also support artists and organizations through grant funding. It’s time you get some of that money too! Learn about grant opportunities, tips on writing successful grant applications, resources for finding grants, how to deal with rejection letters, and more!

TOPIC: The Art of the Sale

DESCRIPTION: The ability to talk to potential buyers about your work in such a way as to promote a sale is a skill that can be taught… and with practice, a skill that will change your bottom line. This lecture will cover:
  • All of the many steps to take before you hit the selling floor
  • Understanding the seven steps of the sale & how these steps build on one another
  • FAB – features, advantages and benefits
  • Applying the steps of the sale to your own work
  • Selling in your studio is different than selling at a retail show and very different than selling at a wholesale show.
  • How to “sell” on an online venue
The topics in this workshop apply to both visual artists and craftspeople.
