2016 Fall Folk Arts Workshops:
Jewish Heritage in Elmira
The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes is hosting a series of workshops in collaboration with the Jewish Center and Federation of the Twin Tiers and Congregation Kol Ami in Elmira. These workshops will encourage people to share experiences of their own heritage and will offer tools for documenting memories, traditions, and objects that tell the stories of a community. Workshops are open to the general public.
Do you have stories about growing up in a Jewish neighborhood? Recipes for special Jewish foods? Holiday traditions? Historical information about Jewish life in Elmira? Are you interested in learning about Jewish life in Elmira? Join us for one or all of the following workshops this fall.
The Art of Celebration: Sukkoth, Family, and Food
Guest speaker Dr. Gabi Berlinger (American Studies, Jewish Studies, Folklore, UNC Chapel Hill) will join us via internet to share photographs and stories of the holiday of Sukkoth among immigrant communities in Israel. What artistic traditions make celebrations unique, and how does your family celebrate?
