Gerard Block Apartments and Artist Studios
You helped make this dream a reality! Hundreds of artists participated in the research that led to the development of the Gerard Block live-work apartments, artist studios and commercial spaces that are located in Elmira at Lake and Carroll Streets. Arbor Housing and Development worked tirelessly in consultation with The ARTS Council and other arts organizations to bring the dream of spaces for artists to the region. Units are expected to be available for rent by November 1, 2020.

Along with 8 available studio spaces and 5 commercial store fronts, there are 24 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom units. Three units are mobility assistive units and two have been modified to assist with hearing and/or vision difficulty. Artists are preferred for 10 of the 28 apartments!

Applications, and all initial vacancies will be filled through a lottery system. Applications drawn in the lottery will be placed on a waitlist in the order that they were drawn. Applicants will then be requested to meet with Gerard Block Apartments staff for the final approval process, prior to being offered a residential lease. Due to governing regulations, applicants must meet the income limit of the available unit – otherwise, we will move to the next applicant while keeping the unqualified applicant in their waitlist position until an appropriate unit is available.
