I am a glass flameworking professional with diverse experience in glass flameworking, teaching, and presenting. I have degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science, and have always loved glass. My major life change came when I had the great opportunity to work in Corning, NY and was "smitten" by glass. My first date with my husband was a hands-on open house at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY.  I left the "engineering-faith" so to speak to use the artistic side of my brain full time in 2006. I have taught over 10 years at The Corning Museum of Glass and local studios.  I have been a teaching assistant for world class glass artists such as Paul Stankard, Emilio Santini, Debbie Tarsitano, Loren Stump, etc. I have participated in juried shows and exhibits at the Glass Art Society Conference, West End Gallery, Clothesline, Arts in the Gardens, etc.  My work has been published in magazines such as: The Flow Magazine, LAMMAGA, The GlassBead Magazine, and the Canandaigua Magazine. I now have my own studio in Honeoye, NY (the lovely Finger Lakes region).

She attributes her creative gifts to her paternal grandmother and aunt, who were both artists, and to her mother, who was passionate about fashion, funky jewelry and interior design. At a young age, Beth took drawing and painting lessons, and then turned her creative efforts to fashion design and theatre production in high school. She started college pursuing a fine arts degree at the University of Mary Washington, changed her major to Economics, and then went on to get her MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. After a full career in the business world, which included expatriate assignments in Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai, she returned to her creative side. Beth has been studying painting in the arts rich Corning, NY area, and feels blessed to have access to excellent arts instruction and workshops. She has studied under Bridget Bossart van Otterloo, Wilson Ong, Kenneth Cobb. Beth works from her studio on Market Street in scenic downtown Corning, NY.

I speak for the juncture of Finger Lake’s culture and world culture. Subjects span from the early Haudenosaunee people, to the underground railroad, to the Women’s Right movement, and to the social impact of the ever-changing dominant local economies. In a century when rural and urban life are tearing apart it seems worthwhile to express that until recently all life was rural, or near-rural. Using the form, color, and motion of mobiles I borrow the wind, sun, rain, and snow to demonstrate that contrary to traditional understandings, mobiles can be deeply emotive.
