A Queer Perspective: Skits From the Queer Theater Project
Last month, June 2024, The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes celebrated the culmination of a recent project with A Queer Perspective: Skits from the Queer Theater Project. The Queer Theater Project welcomed local LGBTQIA+ writers and theater enthusiasts to join a series of workshops facilitated by Jeffrey Mathews, who has years of experience in writing, producing, acting, and directing.
In these workshops, participants learned about theme selection, script writing, and the fundamentals of theater production. At the end of the series, skits written by Ashley Alden, Louise A. Blum, Janice H. DonDero, Jeffrey Mathews, Oliver Perez, and Connie Sullivan-Blum were performed by actors Dante Acquavella, Jasmine Helles, Meghan O’Toole, Jake Schultze, and Ethan Dustin Davidson, as well as some of the writers themselves.
The themes in these vignettes featured topics from the humorous to the heartbreaking, reflecting the many voices and experiences of those who identify as queer. Following the performance, audience members had a chance to ask the writers questions about their skits and experiences. Check out the gallery below to see some of our favorite moments!
